We had a guide to take us around Shanghai and tell us a bit more about the sights. First we went up the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower (468m high), from which we got some great views. It is really close to the tallest tower in Shanghai (2nd in the world!) which looks like a bottle opener and is 492m high. From there (when we had finally got down- the crowds were insane. I think half of China had decided to visit!) we went to Yu Yuan again and actually got into the main garden this time! These were spectacular and we learnt about the significance of the dragons and the classic shape of the roofs. The guide ordered us some delicious chinese food. Next we visited the Jade Buddha temple. We saw the huge (2m) white jade buddha in the lotus position and a smaller reclining buddha. We then had a very brief stop at the Shanghai museum where we saw more jade examples and old paintings and calligraphy.
We met Dave and family and went to the Bund, the old British Concession along the waterfront. We had another lovely dinner before heading to the station to get our overnight train to Huang Shan.

Hi there in China - it was great to speak to you on Saturday and Dave and Angela have obviously looked after you amazingly! It must be strange not being able to communicate - maybe you will learn some mandarin by the time you leave!

hi huys - soz i haven't posted anything on here for a while but been so busy since back form skiing,. ive kept checking out though and looks as though u r still enjoying yourselves. The last couple days in Oz sounded great esp the blue moutains bit - think ur a bit lazy taking a cable car up mind u!
ReplyDeleteShnaghai looks cool as well, but im surprised ur getting funny looks - coz - the chinese are midgets to, so therefore u fit in brilliently... i suppose that u r probs even smaller than tehm :)
Had hockey at the w/e against Kent & Sussex - managed to to beat Kent but then lost to Sussex who lost to Kent which is a bit crazy. harry's team did a bit better - winning their age group and getting into the nationals. on wed i ahve the st georges 6's tournament (hockey) which should be fun & more time off school.
On, and btw, mite be going on the swingband tour to the balck forest (Germany if ur geography has left u??)
Anyway, hope u enjoy ur last 2 weeks - looking froward to seeing u again.
